Time Out

Time Out

So one of my daughters took some time off from all social media.  I think she just needed to getaway.  Social media is not bad but some aspects of it can be troubling.  You see people on vacation at exotic locations.  You see there new cars, boats, and houses.  You see that their kid just got excepted to Yale and your child is just struggling to get into Community College.  These things can make a person envious.  Have you ever compared your life or situation to someone else?  I mean why does God make my life so hard and someone else appears to be so blessed?

Do you want the answer?  Well, the Bible says it’s none of your business.  Wait, what?  Does the Bible say that?

“Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.”

John 21:22 NIV

Yea the Bible says that.  Jesus had just given some hard news to Peter and Peter’s question was, “Well what about John.  Is he going to have a hard life?” The answer to the question was, “what is that to you?” Or, it’s not your business.  You are to live the life God has given you.  For each of us, God has a different plan.  We are not to go around looking at others at think, “Wow I sure like their plan better than mine.”  The truth is when we are discontent with our lives or envious of what someone else has, we are saying, “God I am not happy with what you have provided.”  For all good things come from God and nothing comes into our lives without God’s allowing it.  In effect, we are just like the people of Israel, grumbling and complaining.  That’s not how we are to live.  We are to live a life marked by thankfulness. Maybe it’s time to take a time out and instead of questioning God, why not just rest in His mercy and love. Instead of discontent, be filled with joy for what you have, whether a little or a lot. Thank you, Lord, for all your blessing.
