He Teaches Me at Night.

“I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.”
Psalms 16:7 NIV
We have all heard the joke about the student who sleeps with his book under his pillow. The reasoning being that the student hopes some of the knowledge will seep into their brain in the night. I am not sure how effective that study strategy works and I don’t recommend it. But here is one strategy I do recommend.
Our Lord is a wonderful counselor. Let us meditate on His Word. As we go to sleep let our last thoughts be of Him. Let our hearts be praising Him. The communion of the soul with God brings inner spiritual wisdom And peace. Our Lord and savior spent many a night in prayer and communion with the Father. I have found that if I end the day in such a manner then the next morning when I wake often I wake with songs of praise and worship on my heart.
Does God come in the night even when we sleep and instruct us? I don’t know. But I tend to think so. I have had dreams at night where I am thinking about some verse and in my dream, the meaning of the verse becomes clearer. In the morning when I examine my dream against scripture it is in alinement with God’s Word. I can not explain this and I would always test all thoughts against Scripture, but yes I believe our God can speak to us at any time.
Waking to thoughts and songs of my Lord are the most pleasant of mornings. On such days my heart just seems to continue with praise. Let our days and nights be filled with longing for our Lord. Let praise, worship, and prayers be always on our tongue.
