The Last Arrow
By: Erwin Raphael McManus

.
I’m just going to get this out there right off, I recommend this book. McManus will challenge and encourage you to reach for your best life in Christ. Here McManus takes a look at success, failure and how we measure these things in our life. If you die with things left undone, is that a failure? McManus looks at that question and many more.
The concept of that last arrow, one from an Old Testament story, Jehoash and Elisha. In this story Elisha tells Jehoash to take his arrows and strike the ground. So Jehoash does and strikes the ground three times and stops. Elisha is mad and asks why did you stop. Why is Elisha mad? Elisha explains, you should have struck the ground five or six times then you would have had that many victories over your enemies. Instead you will now only have three victories. Jehoash had quit before the victories had all been won, how often are we like that.
With this theme McManus expands on the idea of living your life for God so that at the end you have no arrows left in your quiver, you have given all you have for Christ. This is a life that goes against our western culture of safety and security, this is a life that will challenge you to defy the odds. And live your most for His glory.
This book is a quick and easy read, but with lots of depth. I would recommend this book to everyone and for all ages. I will close with this quote from McManus, “ May you die with your quivers empty, May you die with your hearts full.”
