Not of Man

Not From Men

“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.”

Galatians 1:11-12 ESV

Often when we get into discussions with people there are topics we tend to avoid.  Politics and religion would probably be high on the list.  I can see the avoidance of politics, as the details quickly come down to my beliefs as opposed to your beliefs.  None of us has a superior claim to truth when it involves our opinions.

Yet when it comes to religion is it our beliefs?  And does it even matter what we believe?  The answer to both questions is, “No”. Paul is very clear that what he preaches does not come from man.  Paul states that the gospel comes from Jesus Christ, the words Paul writes are Devine inspiration.

So when I speak of religion (I am not a fan of the word, as what I have is a relationship, not a religion) I am not expressing my beliefs as much as I am sharing God’s revelation. If I keep my opinion out of it then it is just God’s Word.  We as Christians are not following some clever made-up fable but the very word of God.  People rejecting this then are not rejecting us, as it’s not my opinion, but are rejecting God.

The other day I had a conversation with someone and they did not like what I was saying and keep complaining that they did not agree with what I was saying.  I stopped them and said, “I am not saying this, it is what God’s Word is saying”. You see the reason they wanted to point to me, is that it’s a lot easier to disregard what a person says and a lot harder to disregard God.

People love to bring the conversation down to well that’s what you think or believe.  Stop them right there, if God’s Word has said something then it’s not my opinion or belief.  What any person believes has no impact on the facts of God’s Word.  Make it clear that what you are saying comes from the Bible and not from any man.  Many people will reject the truth.

“But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.”

2 Corinthians 3:14-16 ESV

For us the call is to share, Jesus is the one that lifts the veil and reveals the truth.  Don’t get weary doing good, don’t ever give up doing what is right.  Preach the good news in season and out.  Then let the Spirit work. Run harder for the finish line grows near.
