God’s Will
What’s God’s will for my life? Where should I go to school, who should I marry or what job should I seek? These are all questions we have thought about and heard from others. The best answer I have is found in Matt. 6:33. Beyond that, I don’t have an answer. But on some topics, the Bible is quite clear about God’s will.
“who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,”
Galatians 1:4 ESV
It was God’s will that His Son should die for our sins. But it is more than just this, He “gave himself” this was done because of love, John 3:16. The Son because of His love and obedience died for us. Yet so much more, it was the good pleasure of the Son to come and die. Think on that for a moment, at some time in eternity past, the Trinity agreed that the Son would come and die for the sins of the world and this plan pleased God. Because of His love and compassion, we can be rescued.
This was the will of the Father, each and every one of us rescued believers is saved by God’s sovereign will.
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”
John 1:12-13 ESV
So if you ask me what is God’s will for your life, I will tell you that it is to be like His Son.
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Ephesians 5:1-2 ESV
Walk like Jesus, give till it hurts, and then give some more. Give of your time, talents, treasures, and life for this will be an except-able offering to our God.
