Search and Rescue

Search and Rescue

During my career, there were times when I was involved in a search and rescue missions.  Often this involved missing children.  Most times with happy results but not always.

“who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,”

Galatians 1:4 ESV

Jesus was also part of a search and rescue mission, He came searching for the lost (He did not have to look far).  And by His death the rescue was complete. The word here, “Deliver” in the Greek carries the meaning of, “rescuing from danger.”  We were lost and in great danger, Jesus came on the greatest search and rescue mission in history.  He rescued us from this, “present evil age” and it seems to grow eviler each day if such a thing is even possible.  This’ “evil age” is not referring to a time period so much as a system.  It is a transitory satanic world system.  We live in a fallen world that is dominated by evil.

But take heart, we are rescued.  At the moment of salvation, we are no longer a part of this present evil age.

“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”

John 17:16 ESV

“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,”

Philippians 3:20 ESV

Although we live in this world, until death or rapture, we are no longer of this world.  Our citizenship is in heaven! We are nowhere on a search and rescue mission.  The searching is easy, for the lost are all around us.  Our mission then is to live the faithful Christian life and lead the lost around us to the cross.
