Cult

Is this a Cult?

I was told the other day that Christians did not have exclusivity on truth.  That I did not have a right to believe that my religion was the, “Only way.”  Well they are right. I don’t have an exclusive lock on truth, but I know who does.  For if Christ is not the truth then I am a member of a cult.  Why do I say this?  Well lets look at it real quick.  Jesus makes the following claims, He is truth, He is the Son of God, He is God, He is the Christ, the Messiah and He is the only way to the Father.

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6 NIV

If these thing are not true then Jesus was a liar.  He misled His followers, convinced them to give up their belongings and even families. He told them they were to obey His commands. Told them He was the only way to salvation. Told them the world would hate them and persecute them for their belief in Him.  Had them so brainwashed that they even died for Him.

So I went to the CARM web site and here is a list of some of the characteristic of a cult.

Submission – complete unquestioned trust of the leader.

Exclusivity – this is the only way

Persecution complex – the worlds out to get you

Control – the leader is to control the thoughts and actions of the followers

Love Bombing – love one another

Indoctrination – teaching of group are shared with new members

Salvation – must stay within the group

The list goes on but I will stop there.  I think you see the point.  It’s either Jesus is a liar and the leader of a cult.  Or He is the Son of God, who came to take away the sins of the world.  There is no other option.  So then each of us must make a decision.  As for me, I have decided to follow Jesus.
