All You Can Eat

All You Can Eat

I like going out to eat. Of all the restaurants perhaps buffets may be my favorite. And why not? You can pick all of your favorites foods and forget the rest. What else could you ask for in a restaurant?

Unfortunately, I think many people see God the same way. We walk down the line and pick the parts of God we like and forget the rest. God of love, yes I’ll take one of those. Mercy, grace and save me from hell, yes, please. God that answers prayers and gives to His children like the best dessert, give me two. Yes, all these things are true about our God; yet, we often overlook other things.

God of truth, justice, jealousy, wrath, and Holy.  But perhaps the one we overlook most is, “Lord”.  We say the sinners’ prayer and invite Him to be Lord and savior.  But for most of us, the savior part is of prime importance and need.

“As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy.”

Psalms 123:2 NIV

Yes, if He is to be our savior He must be our Lord. What all that means would take forever to discuss. So, let’s just look at one small part. If He is Lord then I am His slave. As a slave, I am to always be looking to Him. A slave looks to their master for direction. The master merely looks and the slave goes and does. Yet, if the slave does not focus on the master how can he know the will of the master. For too many of us, we focus on ourselves. Our eyes are on this world and our brief life. Oh yes, we are much more than slaves, children, ambassadors, joint-heirs. We must start with His Lordship over our lives. We can never fully be what He designed us to be until we become servants. Until He is Lord over everything in our lives we cannot be all He has made us to be. If you are one of His children then He is not just your savior, He is first and foremost your Lord. Let us live with our eyes focused on Him.
