How or Who

How or Who

Let me ask you a question.  Suppose you are at work one day and you and all your coworkers are called into a large conference room.  The room is filled and in walk a group of people that you know only because you have seen their pictures on the wall.  These men and women are the leaders of your company.  Then begin to explain that the company is going to go thru a time of massive change and restructuring.  These changes will affect everyone in the company.  In the days to come, everyone called into the room will have their position change.  Some might even have to move to other cities.  But whatever happens, everyone will be affected in major ways by the corporate changes.  Then the bosses explain that due to the limited amount of time they can only do one of two things.  They can give you details on how the changes will happen, including how it might affect different departments within the company. Along with some details about timelines and how the changes are to be implemented.  Or they can introduce the man they have chosen to lead the company thru this difficult time and tell you a little about his background and experience.  They can then explain why they believe he is the best person to lead the company into the future.  Given these two options which one would, you chose?

I think that for most of us the answer is obvious.  we want to know, “how” how is this going to affect me.  How soon will this happen?  How will it be implemented? How in the world will we accomplish the goals.

Now let us say that someone in the room knows the new CEO of the company.  This person is a very close personal friend.  They have known this man for years.  They know he is a remarkable leader, a man of vision.  A man is known for his dedication to the company and a man known to genuinely care for each employee.  They tell you not to worry because the new CEO is the best man for the job.  And that he will take care of everyone in the company and in the end, we will all be better off than we are today.  They then tell you that if you will just get to know the new CEO you will feel a lot better.  If this were true would it change how you thought?

Well as Christians this is how we live our lives.  God tells us to go and we say, “How”.  We want all the details.  And that’s not the answer.  The answer is you just need to know the CEO better.  If you trust the leader to do the right thing and take care of you then the details are not as important.  Let me be brutally honest for a moment.  Our need to have the answers, rather than walk by faith is an indication that we don’t know the CEO as well as we should.  There I said it.  When you follow a great leader you don’t worry about the details because you trust He has them already worked out.

Lord let me know you more each day. When I call you Lord teach me the true meaning of what I have said. (He is Lord means that I am but His slave) Let me trust you (Prov. 3:5-6)

“He will feed his flock like a shepherd. He will carry the lambs in his arms, holding them close to his heart. He will gently lead the mother sheep with their young.”
