Legacy – Remember Me.
Meditations in Psalms
Do people remember you? I mean if we went back to say, your High School would people remember you? If so what would they say? When you die how will you be remembered? I started thinking about these things after the resent death of a very prominent Christian apologist. After his death a number of people came forward with stories that discredited him.
“You, God, know my folly; my guilt is not hidden from you. Lord, the Lord Almighty, may those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me; God of Israel, may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me.”
Psalms 69:5-6 NIV
Psalm 96 is filled with prophetic references to the life of Jesus. But in the middle of this Psalm we find these verses. Read them one more time. Here the Psalmist is crying out to the Lord. He prays that his legacy will not bring discredit to our God. Although we are to always keep our focus on Jesus the fact is people will watch other people. So if anyone knows that you are a Christian, and they should. Then someone is watching your life. What do they see? I pray that we live our lives in such a way that we never dishonor the Lord. No, we are not perfect, yet it is to be our goal. Our lives are to be lived in such a way, that when we leave this world people will only be able to say such things as bring glory to our King.
