Honor to a Women
“Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.”
Judges 4:8 NIV
How frequently are we like Barak? Let me set the scene for you. Israel as it often had done in the past had turned away from God. So God had allowed the Canaanites to oppress them. At that time God would raise up judges to oversee the people and one such judge was Deborah. It was known that she was a judge and a prophetess. The people would come to her to settle disputes. So when she calls Barak he knows that he is being called by someone that represents the Lord. Deborah tells Barak to get some men together and go out to defeat the enemy. And look at what Barak says. I’ll go only if you go with me. Why did he want her to go with him? Because he knew God was with her. But if he knew that then he had to know that what she was telling him to do was from God.
In our lives just as Barak, knew what God was telling him to do we also come to the same place of knowing. God clearly shows us what we are to do but we stop. OK, God, I will do it but I have some conditions. I will do what you tell me, only if you do this thing first. We know that God had sent His message to Barak and that means that God was going to be with him. What else could he need? God is on my side. Yet, just like Barak, even when we know that God has spoken and that God is on our side we want more. How much more do we need when we know that God is going with us? In this case, Deborah went with Barak into battle and the honor of catching and killing the enemy’s General went to a woman minding her business at home. How often do we give up on the victory because we want more than just God with us? Yes, God saw the people thru and they defeated the enemy, but God had so much more for Barak. His fear and doubt cost him, how much? Well, it does not say. Yet, it does tell us that the honor for the victory went to a woman. How much are we giving up each day because we ask for more? When God has spoken why is His word not enough? If God is for us who can be against us? So, then let us go forth to victory.
