Sins of Omission
So, a few weeks ago I was talking with one of the guys and he asked me if not reading your Bible was a sin? I told him I did not think so. But that when we neglect to read our Bible it’s just like not eating food. Can we do it? Yes, but after a while we get weak. And so the same thing would happen to us when we neglect reading God’s word. After some time we get weak.
Upon further reflection perhaps it could be a sin.
“Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”
James 4:17 NLT
So, do we know that we ought to read the Bible and spend time with God? If you said, “yes” then James says it’s a sin. This does not apply only to Bible reading, it goes for anything we know is right to do but don’t do it. If your conscience tells you that you are to be doing something and we don’t then I think we may have a problem.
Let’s just take a look at a few examples. If I see a poor person asking for money and I think, “I should help that person.” But then, “I say no they will only use my money for alcohol and drugs.” Have I not done a few things wrong, did I not listen to my heart? Did I not judge them and have I forgotten that the money is not mine but God’s. I am merely an instrument that God uses to get His money where He wants it. Or let’s say I come home one day and see the kitchen needs to be cleaned. Do I help out or not? Well, the real question is do I know what I should do? Yes, then to not do it would be a sin. This can be applied to many areas of our life. The simple answer is to do what you know is right to do
