“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
James 1:22 NIV
To “deceive” means “to deceive by false reasoning”. This is something we do to ourselves. It occurs within our own minds. We rationalize our actions and tell ourselves we are, “OK.” When in reality we have totally missed the boat. The mark of true Christian conversion is our actions. If nothing about you changed when you got saved you may not have been saved. A new birth means a new person. A new person should not act like the old one. The new life must bring new fruit. I believe one mark of a new person should be a change in the way you love.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
John 13:34-35 NIV
When people see you let love be what they see. When others mistreat you let love be what they receive. When others speak of you let love be what they mention. Love is to be the defining mark of a Christian.
