A New Job

Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope have captured the most comprehensive picture ever assembled of the evolving Universe — and one of the most colourful. The study is called the Ultraviolet Coverage of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (UVUDF) project.

A New Job

Sept.16

For most of us starting the first day of a new job can be nerve racking and exciting at the same time. What if I don’t like this new job? What if my new boss is not nice? What if I don’t like my new coworkers or worse yet they don’t like me? Well let me put your hearts to rest. In heaven you will have a job. But guess what? It will be the most perfect job you ever had, almost as if God made the job just to fit you. (HE did) You will work for the best boss ever and your coworkers will be perfect. (Literally) Ever day you will be filled with excitement to go to work and your job will fill you with joy. Now what exactly it is that you will be doing? Well as to that I’m not sure. But, the Bible does give us some clues, so here goes.

Some day Jesus will rule the earth, it is His gift from God.  We also will obtain an inheritance.

“It was not through the law that Abraham and his offspring received the promise that he would be heir of the world, but through the righteousness that comes by faith.”

Romans 4:13 NIV

Jesus will set up His kingdom and rule the earth and we will rule with Him.  Each of us will be given an area of authority and responsibility.  (Rev. 22:5).  We will have an ongoing, eternal stewardship over some part of God’s kingdom. We will be judges.

“Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!”

1 Corinthians 6:3 NIV

What that means exactly, I’m not sure but it sure does sound important. Here are a few more verses that talk about us regaining with Christ. Rev. 5:10, Rev. 20:4-6, Daniel 7:27, 2 Tim. 2:11-12.  So in heaven we will be given jobs to do, I firmly believe that our responsibility in heaven will be directly related to our faithfulness here on earth.  Here are a few other things that I believe, but are not directly said in Scripture.

We were made in the image of God, this is more about the inside of us than what we look like on the outside. The qualities of God can be found in us i.e. Love, justice, anger, artistic, creative, humorous, adventurous and so much more. These are qualities that we get from our Father, although tainted by sin and thus expressed on earth in a corrupted form. What does this mean for us in heaven. It means that God has created an infinite universe for us to explore and enjoy. To see the majesty of His unlimited artistic ability and to appreciate the beauty of His creation. In eternity I believe we will experience and discover all of God’s creation. It will be exciting and amazing. It will be filled with joy and fun. We will never be bored not for one second. For as our God is infinite in all that He is and does. So, then His creation in its perfected sinless form will be more than we can ever fully experience.

“Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

Revelation 21:1-3 NIV

So, then let this thought be on our hearts and minds. Let us encourage one another with words of praise and songs of the return of our King. Until that day. Come Lord Jesus.

“He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.”

Revelation 22:20 NIV
